Brodeur and Avery: A Love Story

I'm halfway back to enjoying watching hockey again. The Devils/Rangers series had my energy split between unadulterated love for the Devils and ferocious, consuming hatred of the Rangers. Now that my Devils are done for the season, I can focus solely on using my mind bullets to telepathically sink the boys in Blue.

This also means a hiatus to the on again, off again romance we have seen between Devils' goalie Marty Brodeur and Rangers' forward Sean Avery. The honeymoon ended when, during the traditional post-series hand shake the two skated past each other without so much as kissing fingertips, or offering a parting glance. Avery did however call Brodeur, "Fatso" in a post-game interview.

Avery's comments in the post game interview cast him no better light than Brodeur. But, this is what I have come to expect from Avery not just by the nature of his role, but because of his past behavior.
Having said that, Brodeur's achievements come with expectations that he hold himself to a higher standard.

The whole point of the Hand Shake is to show that what happens on the ice stays on the ice. A show of good sportsmanship. Tonight, Marty did not participate. I find it unfortunate that he did not as I would like to look back at him as a gracious loser. If he's not, he's not. Call it classless if you want since that seems to be the all encompassing buzzword.

Other notes:

John Madden gets stoned by Lundqvist on 3rd Period penalty shot. For the love of JEEBUS! Do the Devils even use scouting reports? Hint for Rangers' second round opponent, SHOOT HIGH!!
