For anybody that watched 30 Rock tonight (if you missed it, the episode "Subway Hero" should be up shortly here: http://www.hulu.com/30-rock), there were craaaazy hockey references.
For a show that has rarely mentioned hockey it was rather odd to have the Stanley Cup appear out of nowhere.
What possible reason could this be? Oh right, THE NHL ON NBC!!!! It worked though as 30 Rock is notorious for not hiding it's commercial sponsors and the way NBC worms endorsements into its programming.
Some of the plot-lines could be used as metaphors:
Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) as the new hip face of the Republican party: Is the NHL trying to woo fans who have no desire or reason to be interested in hockey?
An old entertainer shows the good ole' days weren't as good as we thought...just ole: Do we glorify hockey's past?
Main character gets back together with pedophile ex: Yeah, I'm not touching that.
